Mortal Kombat 1 to feature guest Kameo fighters

We’re still a few weeks away from the release of Mortal Kombat 1, and details continue to trickle out. Now, we know that the game’s new Kameo fighters system will feature guest fighters.

Thanks to a post on Reddit, which was translated from Brazilian marketing, there will be new DLC Kameo fighters as well as guest characters. The post did not feature any additional info, as it was simply bullet points revealing the new tidbit. So far, we do know that every character that we can control can also be used a Kameo, so a Sub-Zero / Sub-Zero team is possible. What we do not know if there are going to be any Kameo-specific characters that we won’t be able to control.

Multiple skins are also going to be available. The game’s marketing so far has revealed that Jean Claude Van Damme will be a Johnny Cage skin – a homage to the actor originally desired to play the role for the 1992 video game.

Kameo fighters aren’t simply character swaps like in MvC, instead they serve as an integral part of combos and even fatalities. Kameo fatalities are a thing, and many will even be stage specific.  This sets the stage for a lot of experimentation in order to locate all the juicy, gory endings we have come to know and love from the franchise.

Mortal Kombat is releasing soon this September, and it will also feature a brand new Invasion mode set up similar to a board game. It’s a reboot of the franchise that takes place in a brand new universe created by Liu Kang after becoming the fire God at the end of Mortal Kombat 11 thanks to Raiden.
