Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PS5 release date announced

Insomniac games has announced that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be released on October 20th. Alongside the announcement also came the reveal of the official box art which features both Peter Parker and Miles Morales front-and-center.

The box art also contains nods to other aspects of the game, such as the darkness surrounding the signature red background. This darkness, according to Insomniac, represents the villains — Venom, Lizard, and Kraven — that threaten New York City.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is a sequel to the critically acclaimed 2018 superhero blockbuster. Not only was that game well-received by critics and fans, but it was also a commercial success. It’s a high bar to surpass, but Insomniac has made great strides to tell an original story featuring both Peter Parker and Miles Morales.

While much of the storyline remains a secret, Insomniac did confirm that Venom in the game is not Eddie Brock. Many suspect Harry Osborn could be venom, a theory based on a post-credits scene in the first game.

In addition to announcing a release date, sharing new artwork and dropping some character details, Insomniac also confirmed that pre-orders for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will go live on June 16. They also shared pre-order information about the game which will be available in three different editions.

Pre-ordering the game will get you two special Spidey suits, one for Peter and another for Miles. Each will have three unique color variants, as seen below.

The Digital Deluxe Edition and Collector’s Edition come with additional bonuses and perks with the latter featuring a 19-inch statue depicting Spider-Man battling Venom.

The release date announcement comes just weeks after Insomniac revealed some stunning gameplay from Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, showing off all-new combat features. If you missed it, check it out below.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is coming exclusively to PlayStation 5 on October 20, 2023.
