Overwatch 2: Season 2 brings Ramattra, Shambali Monastery and more

It’s hard to believe that we’re nearing the second season of Overwatch 2 but ahead of its arrival, Blizzard has details what fans can expect. Some of the things we can look forward to include a new hero, a new map, some competitive balance changes and more.

Season 2 will mark the arrival of a brand new Tank hero, Ramattra. Blizzard recently released a gameplay overview for Ramattra, the game’s first ever “Tempo Tank.” What this means is that Ramattra is able to change between two forms — Omnic and Nemesis. Each form has its own set of abilities and playstyle, giving players flexibility and versatility on the battlefield.

Season 2 will also bring a new Escort map, Shambali Monastery. The one-time home to both Zenyatta and Ramattra, Shambali Monastery served as a refuge for countless Omnics.

On the topic of maps, Season 2 will offer a new map pool. Fan-favorite maps Rialto and Blizzard World will be returning alongside Oasis and Nepal at different times of day. Hollywood and Watchpoint: Gibraltar will be rotated out, but will still be available in custom games.

We’re also getting a new round of balance changes based on player feedback and gameplay metrics. Sojourn was found to be dominating the highest tiers of Competitive ranks, but is still too much of a challenge for players without the same mechanical skills. To address this, the damage from her Rail Gun at a distance will be lowered, which should encourage players to make use of Sojourn’s high mobility and close the distance.

Doomfist was also mentioned to be receiving “significant changes” along with adjustments for  Ana, Bastion, Junker Queen, Kiriko, Mercy, and Symmetra. Full details will probably arrive ahead of the new update on December 6.

As for the theme, Season 2 will revolve around Greek Mythology. the all-new Mythic skin is Zeus Junker Queen, and will include new customizations, weapon models, voice lines, and special effects. It will only be available from the Premium Battle Pass. The Battle Pass will also offer Legendary Poseidon Ramattra and Legendary Hades Pharah.

Overwatch 2 Season 2 is set to arrive on December 6, 2022.
