Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury: How to unlock Rosalina

Please note: Rosalina can only be unlocked in Super Mario 3D World and not the additional game, Bowser’s Fury. Luckily, not only is Super Mario 3D World the lion’s share of the game but she’s just a straight-up queen so it’s still awesome.

So, as I’ve mentioned in my review of Super Mario 3D World, there are multiple characters you can play as, each with their own perks. Luigi has wicked ups, Peach floats, Toad is tiny and yells all the time. Rosalina, who can be unlocked in the game, is no exception. She comes with a Luma attack that not only hits everything around her but doubles as a double jump.

How to unlock Rosalina in Super Mario 3D World

To unlock Rosalina, you first need to beat the game, including Bowser’s World (not Bowser’s Fury, unrelated). When that happens you’ll find a rocket ship waiting for you on the World 1 map.

Hopping on will take you to the World Star, an awesome but challenging world that requires a ton of stars to get through. You only need to beat the second stage to unlock Rosalina.

So how many stars do you need? To get into the second stage you’ll need to collect 170 stars.

Afterward, you’ll be able to select here for any of the other stages in both single and multiplayer adding another fun layer to the game.

One of the difficulties you may encounter with using Rosalina, however, is that when she has a fire flower, a boomerang suit, or the catsuit, she loses the double jump. If you’ve gotten used to working with the double jump, not paying attention and losing that second jump for a bit can lead to some really stupid mistakes — especially if you go into something expecting the second jump back up only to do absolutely nothing.

It’s a shame she can’t be used in Bowser’s Fury though, she’d absolutely destroy it.
