Mighty No. 9 has finally arrived, bringing with it heaps of negativity from fans and critics. Here are some Kickstarter projects that didn’t fall on their face.

Earlier this week marked the ending of a long-winded inevitability; overwhelming negative feedback from those who have played Mighty No. 9. Whether it was the numerous delays, a poor first impression from gameplay videos back in 2014 or creator Keiji Inafune’s attempts to bankroll additional Kickstarter projects (include a companion anime series for a game that wasn’t yet funded), Comcept dropped the ball on numerous occasions.

Mighty No. 9 backers, should any solace be taken, must place it in the fact that Comcept actually released the game. For titles like Yogventures! and Unsung Story, among others, Kickstarter backers were left high and dry due to massive mismanagement of funds and trust placed in people that should not have been given free reigns. It’s better than nothing!

However awful the game turned out to be, to lump criticism for Mighty No. 9 and apply it to all Kickstarter projects is disingenuous. It discredits some of the excellent offerings that have been birthed from the crowdfunding platform, some of which I will plan to highlight in this piece.

For this experiment, I will only be considering Kickstarter projects that have been completed and launched in full, or at least with a strong majority of content released. Projects that received a ton of money that are still in active development (Shenmue III and Yooka-Laylee come to mind) will not be counted, as even they can just fall apart in the race to the finish line. Delays are inevitable, but numerous pushbacks to the ire of fans will disallow projects that sold a large number of titles post-launch.

With that in mind, let’s start with a project that kept their word on Kickstarter and went above and beyond at launch.
